Our Home - Elgin Valley
In the centre of the apple universe and the cool climate wine region is the Elgin Valley just 75km from Cape Town, arguably the most beautiful city in the world. Our small town of Grabouw is situated within. The town’s population has grown rapidly in the past 20 years and reaches around 44,600 residents in 2021 with a majority being of mixed-race or coloured ethnicity.
Unfortunately, there is a high level of poverty and unemployment in the area, particularly in the informal settlements surrounding the town. It is estimated that around 25% of the population in Grabouw live in informal settlements, with an unemployment rate of over 40%. Some of the local communities in these informal settlements include Pineview , Rooi Dakke, and Green Park
